This wooden chess set brings together simplicity and reliability in a smart, wooden format. With a standard size mahogany-finish board and double weighted wooden pieces, it feels like a natural step up from entry-level plastic tournament sets, while still keeping things practical and affordable.
The smooth, low-sheen surface and clear coordinates make it suitable for casual play, clubs, or those learning notation. The Staunton-style pieces have a classic, balanced feel and come stored in a quality blue drawstring bag, offering easy transport and organisation. Whether you're just getting started or upgrading your everyday set, this is a great-value choice that doesn’t compromise on function or style.

The drawstring bag adds convenience for travel or storage, and the 50mm squares are compatible with most standard tournament sizes.
TLDR – Love this chess set. The board was expertly packed, arrived promptly and the finishing touch was a quirky personalised note. As a primarily online chess enthusiast, for the longest time I was searching for a wooden chess set that bordered a premium feel but didn’t plunder the cheque account. Something that upon display sparked curiosity from guests, but wasn’t too extravagant given my meagre online rating. This chess set simply ticked all these boxes for me. It’s tournament size fulfils the hope that maybe with enough practice, I might feel confident enough to walk into a club. Yet its affordability spoke to my more pragmatic side in the realisation that this will never happen. Thank you Chess World.
Board is beautiful, pieces are a nice size, finished well and are nicely weighted
